Mr Andrew Sankey's Places of Practice

Treating Osteoarthritis of the Shoulder
The shoulder joint is commonly affected by osteoarthritis (wear and tear degeneration), which causes pain and stiffness as we age. This can also occur earlier in life in high impact sportsmen who have sustained traumatic injuries to the shoulder. Diagnosis can easily be made based upon history, clinical examination and simple x-ray. Treatment starts with symptomatic control of pain, but often involves surgical replacement to part of or the whole of the shoulder joint. The aim of surgery is pain control and improvement of function, and recovery takes between three and six months.
