Medical Qualifications
Dr Stephen Pereira qualified in 1989 from The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degree. He completed a PhD from the University of London in 2002 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2003. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2010.
Medical Experience
Dr Pereira was the President of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Education Committee, and the Council of the British Society of Gastroenterology Council; he has also been Chairman of the North-East Thames Gastroenterology Training Committee. Dr Pereira is currently Chairman of the Pancreatic Section of the British Society of Gastroenterology.
Dr Pereira is a Reader in Hepatology & Gastroenterology at University College London and is a Consultant Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist at University College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital, London. He treats privately at The Princess Grace Hospital, London.
He has a particular clinical interest in advanced endoscopy, including ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound and colonoscopy. His specialist clinical and research interests centre around the causes, diagnosis and treatment of liver disease, bile duct and pancreatic cancer, and benign conditions such as primary sclerosing cholangitis and sphincter of Oddi dysfunction.
