Medical Qualifications
Dr Charles Murray undertook his initial medical studies at Cambridge University, later qualifying with distinction from the University of London. Between 2001 and 2005 he undertook his initial research period at St Mark’s Hospital, leading to the award of a PhD in 2006.
Medical Experience and Training
Dr Murray is a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at the Royal Free Hospital where he is also Clinical Lead for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
He was awarded the Moti L. & Kamla Rustgi International Fellowship by the American Gastroenterological Association in 2005 and in 2007 was the Functional Brain-Gut Research Group Young Investigator of the Year. He is currently Secretary of the British Society of Gastroenterology and also works at The Wellington Hospital and The London Clinic.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease - An Overview
The term Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) generally refers to both Crohns Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC), which, as the name suggests are both chronic diseases involving inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Additionally around 5-10% of patients present with a colitis (inflammation of the colon or large bowel) that is difficult to diagnose as either UC or CD and can be described under the microscope as 'indeterminate'. Though there is much ongoing research we do not know the cause of these two conditions and subsequently cannot offer a 'cure' of either condition.
